I believe the best spaces are shaped around people. Whether it’s a home, a school, a community centre or a gallery, every project begins by understanding how people will experience it. I’m Deborah, an architect with over 20 years of experience creating thoughtful, inclusive places across the UK and Europe.
I founded Paper to Place Studio because I believe great design starts with people. Every project begins by listening, understanding how people live, learn, work and connect, and translating those insights into spaces that are inclusive, intuitive and full of purpose.
My career began in Berlin, designing an exhibition for a renowned artist. It taught me that every successful project starts with listening. Uncovering the stories, behaviours and aspirations beneath the surface. That process of discovery continues to shape every project I undertake today.
Over the years, I have been lucky enough to receive industry awards and nominations, but what matters most to me is creating spaces that truly work for the people who use them.
When you work with me, you’ll find that the process is collaborative and thoughtful. I ask questions, because the best design comes from genuine curiosity. I take the time to understand how people move, interact, learn, work, rest and connect, and I use that understanding to shape spaces that feel effortless to use and uplifting to experience.
Great design isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about creating spaces where people feel they belong. We believe everyone deserves to fall in love with their space, which is why our approach is open, collaborative and centred entirely around the people we design for. Every project begins with understanding your needs, aspirations and the way the space will be used, so the design feels both personal and effortless.
By weaving creativity with functionality and sustainability, we create environments that are not only beautiful and comfortable, but also adaptable and inclusive. Whether you’re refurbishing, building anew or transforming an existing space, our aim is the same: to shape places that reflect their purpose, support the people who use them and enrich everyday experience.
If you’d like to discover how we can help you fall in love with your space, we’d love to hear from you.
